Sallee's Rustie Jr x Natchez Trace Josie

  • Location: Collinwood, Tennessee, United States

A reservation for a male spot is remaining. This pairing comes from two years of research and planning. We have combined two stalwart, heritage black and tan lines with the tradition of excellence from two champion sable lines. The genetic COI of this litter is calculated by Embark to be 5%.

Both parents are well balanced, dedicated people lovers who listen well and get along with other animals. I expect these pups to mature into predictable and level-headed companions of exceptional fitness and health. Dogs from both pedigrees are being used for a variety of tasks including livestock management, vermin eradication, therapy, assistance, companionship, trial herding, barn hunt and competitive agility.

The dam is Natchez Trace Josie born April 14th, 2018. Her weight is 54 lbs. Josie is 23¼ " tall at her withers.

Josie is the eighth dam of her line. Josie's dam line founder is Holden's Penny Arkie, seven generations back. Holden's Penny Arkie was alive in the 1990s. She is one of the dam line founders following the bottleneck in the 1980s. Most recently, Josie’s dam line goes back through three Johnson females; Miss Molly of the Blue Ridge, Johnson’s Gracie-Ann Squier, and Johnson’s Katy-Ann Squier. Cheryl Johnson breeds great all-around farm dogs and family companions. Consistent to her breeding, Josie expects to work closely with her human and spend the day with her family. Whether at work or at play, Josie displays a keen power of observation, noteworthy athleticism, and exceptional speed. Josie has been Embark tested and cleared of all breed-specific diseases. Josie has had her hips tested OFA Good (ESP-543G25F-VPI). Josie is dual-registered UKC (P891-586) and ESCR (ESC-5465). You’ll find that Josie’s pedigree is filled with proven working farm dogs as well as titled competition dogs.

The sire is Sallee's Rustie Jr born November 6th, 2010. His weight is 65 lbs. Rusty is 23½" tall at his withers.

Rusty is a fourth generation IESR dog and the tenth sire of his line. The founder of Rusty’s sire line is Bilbrey's Major, nine generations back. We don't have an exact birthdate for Bilbrey's Major, but his great grandson Tobey was born in 1975. So Major was probably born sometime in the early 1960s, which puts him back closer to the time the breed was transitioning to a registered breed. Most recently, Rusty’s sire line goes back through two Janice Sallee dogs; Walker’s Rustie and Sallee’s Jo Jo. Janice Sallee consistently bred capable farm dogs who are people oriented, biddable and tend to form strong bonds with their humans. Rusty has been Embark tested and cleared of all breed-specific diseases. Rusty is triple-registered IESR (E217,709-062Y) , UKC (P943-244) and ESCR (ESC-6497). Rusty has an entirely black and tan pedigree of tried and true working IESR farm dogs.

Ancestrally, the pups from this litter will be ¾ black and tan with a dash of ¼ sable. Broken down further by bloodline, the pups be ½ Sallee black and tan, ¼ Whippoorwill black and tan, 1/8 Cheryl Johnson’s fit and athletic sables, and 1/8 Guy Wilson’s line via Caroline Betts’ Yukon. Johnson’s Gracie-Ann is a UKC Agility Champion. And Yukon is an AHBA herding champion who assists with daily livestock chores on Caroline's Middle Tree Farm.

These pups will be ready to travel home around December 7, 2020. Pedigrees and DNA lab results are linked below. Please use the contact form on the right to contact me.

The English Shepherd, a breed of herding dog native to the United States, is so named because it descended directly from Collie-type dogs brought from the United Kingdom. The English Shepherd is considered one of the most versatile of all herding dogs and is not only capable of working with any species of livestock, but also of hunting, tracking, search-and-rescue, agility, competitive obedience, companionship, and personal protection/guard dog duty.
